Information About Laser Marking Machine

By Nancy Howard

Laser marking is a special process that is widely used in a large number of industries to accomplish various tasks. Basically, this process employs a laser beam to label work pieces. There are several processes identified under laser marking, and they include foaming, annealing, staining, removing, and engraving. The various processes are associated with different pros and cons and they are suitable for use on different kinds of materials. The quality achieved by each process differs. These are the used of laser marking machine.

As a technique of labeling, there are very many benefits that are associated with it that continue to make it popular. For instance, the level of precision in this technique is very high. The substrate can be marked with tiny geometries and 1-point fonts in a clear manner using this technique. Such high-precision results are not achieved once, but every time the method is used. Thus the process guarantees accuracy and precision with each use.

Secondly, this process is very fast. In fact, it is marked as one of the fastest technologies available on the market that are used for labeling work pieces. The speed at which work can be done results in high productivity as well as cost benefits during the process of manufacturing products. Different sources of lasers can be used in this process to even raise the speed of work further.

The markings that are made using this technology are very durable. The marks are meant to be permanent and they offer a high level of resistance to heat, acid, and abrasion. That means that items marked using this technology can be used in a wide range of settings without having to worry about the marks coming out. The process of marking does not also cause any damage to the substrate provided settings on the equipment used are done correctly.

This technology can be used for marking virtually any kind of material. Among the materials which are commonly marked using this technology are metals, laminates, films, foils, and plastics. Examples of metals include gold, bronze, copper, silver, titanium, stainless steel, aluminum, and platinum, among several others. Under plastics, examples include PMMA, polycarbonate, ABS, and polyamide.

There are several procedures which involve laser use that can be performed using the marking equipment. One of these procedures is known as annealing marking. This is a unique process of engraving done on metals using laser. During this process, the metal surface is made to undergo the process of oxidation beneath its surface by the laser. This makes the metal surface to change its color.

Another process is called staining. In this process, lasers generate a heating effect which triggers a chemical reaction in the material of the work piece. The effect is that there are different color shades produced from the process. Which color shades are produced usually depends on the chemical composition of the material.

A special machine is used to undertake this whole process. This machine can generate both forms of lasers, that is, CO and solid-state lasers. The material used to make the work piece usually determine the type of laser to be used.
