HR Generalist Career Path Duties And Responsibilities

When it comes to human resources, there are a number of different positions. In one case, individuals might want to consider a hr generalist career path. For, these individuals often work in all aspects of human resources.

In most cases, working in a human resources department can be fun and exciting. While this is the case, there are also more difficult aspects of the job. In most cases, these are related to firings, layoffs, drug, alcohol and addiction counseling. As such, individuals becoming employed in this area need to have strong written and oral communication skills while being able to handle difficult and disgruntled employees on an ongoing basis.

In most cases, firings usually occur based on actions by the employee and can be easily justified. In other cases, such as layoffs and downsizing, generalists often find letting employees go far more difficult. Whereas, employees having issues with addiction often find help which might not have been made available had it not been for the employer.

As companies worldwide become more competitive, the HR department plays an integral role in the success of the company. In one case, this is by hiring HR generalists whom have a technical background. For, most all aspects of the department is now run on computer functions and software packages for tasks such as payroll, employee record keeping, health insurance and administrative tasks.

Individuals working in this area often also act as liaisons between executives and managers in measuring the engagement of employees in various projects. While most often these individuals report to the company director or department manager, others may be part of HR teams. Whereas, smaller companies, small and family owned businesses often work with an individual HR generalist.

Along with general duties, these individuals are also responsible for the administrative, strategic and compliance-oriented aspects of the company. The compliance aspects includes preparing tax records, documentation management, insurance management while some are also involved in providing training in anti-discrimination and sexual harassment laws. Whereas, in jobs which promote on the job training, these individuals are often involved in leading these classes and workshops.

As some companies are now moving away from annual reviews in favor of on the job monitoring, these individuals may also be asked to oversee employees on a daily or weekly basis. In doing so, these individuals are often also asked to help employees find ways to better manage time and productivity. While this is the case, generalists providing this service are often being monitored by upper level management to assure the individual is taking the proper approach with employees.

One of the most important and newest aspects of the position is to keep employees interested and engaged when it comes to the success of the company. For, if workers can become emotionally connected to a position, it is often more likely professional and personal growth will take place. In most cases, this can take place when employers and employees have a positive ongoing relationship over the course of employment.
